01

Before booking

Ask whether the firm handles your type of matter, serves the relevant location, and charges for the first meeting. Do not assume a consultation is free.

02

Bring what you have

Prepare a concise timeline, existing reports, relevant correspondence, and the names of people involved. Say when you are unsure about a detail; you do not need a complete file to begin.

03

Ask who does the work

Who would be the responsible lawyer? Who would be your main contact? Would another lawyer, staff member, or firm handle parts of the matter?

04

Ask about process and timing

What information does the firm need before assessing the situation? What next steps might apply? Are there deadlines the lawyer needs to review promptly?

05

Ask about costs and communication

Request written fee terms. Ask how case expenses are paid, including if there is no recovery, and how often you can expect updates.
